The Mentalist - New Fall Series Preview
The Mentalist
The Mentalist, played by Australian actor Simon Baker, is the story of a man named Patrick Jane (Baker) who is a mentalist. The show describes a mentalist as one who uses mental acuity, hypnosis, and/or suggestion and a master manipulator of thoughts and behavior. Through the course of the first season, viewers see flashbacks of Patrick Jane's past as a physic. In order of events, the story begins with Patrick Jane pretending to be a physic. He allegedly used his physic powers to "help" people with troubles in their lives: cheating spouses, death, ect.) During this time, Patrick Jane has a wife and a daughter. While pretending to be a physic, Jane agrees to help police try to find the murderer of several people. This man's name is Red John who's sinister method of killing people is cutting their throat then painting a red smilie face on the wall with the victims blood. When Red John sees that Jane is trying to help police catch him, he kills Jane's wife and child. Jane is devestated by this and vows to kill Red John. He joins the CBI (California Bureau of Investigation) to try to find and kill Red John. He uses his acute mental ability to solve other crimes during the show but primarily he is after the murderer of his wife and daughter.
